We played Riot, #3 team in our section the first game. We came out on D and scored the first goal quickly. We went up 4-0 before they scored their first point. We were up 7-2 at half but we had quite a few turns. We turned over the disc quickly on a drop to start the second half and got it back. The ensuing play saw Jason huck a short floater to Taro who went up over and through the Riot defender to catch the goal. The defender called a foul and without question Taro gave the call and the disc to the defender. They scored. We came right back with a perfect huck from Ted to JD to get us on line. We scored 3 more to their 1 and were up 11-4. We scored the final 2 to take the game 13-4.
Our second game was against San Diego. It looked to be tough since they had a few of the old vets playing. The first three points saw no turns and we were up 2-1. We got the disc twice on point 4 but failed to score, 2-2. The next point was a two pass inside out backhand huck from Ted to James, another perfect huck from Ted, 3-2. Again we got the disc on D and failed to score, 3-3. We stayed on serve to 6-5 when we broke the cycle, got a block and Gav threw a leading pass to a diving Mike Namkung for the half. (Your dive is so far Mr. Condor #26). We scored the first 2 of the second half for the 9-5 lead. They quickly scored back. Then Tommy took over the next point catching the disc 4 times including the score delivered from Ted. 10-6. We again scored 2 to their 1, including a 2 turnover point for us that we scored. 12-7. They pulled to us the final point and after 2 throws, JD sent a beautiful forehand huck to the streaking Ryan for the game. Great win.
Game 3 was against the LA Master's team, Tempus Fugit. I was off getting supplies (beers) for after the final game and missed most of the game. We cruised to a 13-5 win.
Game 4 was against the 2nd San Diego team called Smoke. We easily took the half 7-2. Toward the end of the game, at 12-2, they scored 2 in a row. We took a timeout, refocused, and scored the next point to take the game 13-4. Uneventful game.
We had a guest appearance from Tommy's parents. Very nice people. They stayed the whole day and watched their son catch more goals in the first 2 games (5) than anyone else on the team. That's what he keeps telling me his job is. He's doing it well.
After the game we celebrated with a brew at the field and all went down to Jill's house in Irvine for the Condor Sectional Mixer. All but 4 players combined from both teams showed up. Great night. Including pool, pasta, college football (Oregon/USC), and a game of "Have you ever?" I can't divulge any information, but I can say it was eye-opening.
