Scott just called me with an update on the weekend events:
Apparently the wind has fierce (Scott’s words) and it is cold today as well. Yesterday they beat Texas A&M 14-11, then lost to University of Texas on a universal point 12-11. Tide was up by 3 at the half and then had a number of injuries in that game; they were down to 9 players by the end of it. (Tim had a mild concussion and is ok today. Everyone else is on the mend with no serious injuries.) They next played Ohio and won 15-4 and finished the day with a loss to Wisconsin 15-8. This morning they lost to UNT 12-8. They forfeited to San Diego (I think this was a joint decision by the two teams). San Diego was playing the final game against UNT and Scott said all the other teams left (my guess is a combination of the weather and Easter). The team was headed back to Austin and Rory’s house. A big thank you to the Orloff’s for hosting the team over two weekends and today a holiday!

Saturday:
We started the day against Azuza. They ended up scoring more points than we wanted so we were pretty agitated with our play, which included a lot of unforced errors and sub-par defense. We started to roll against USC. We had very few turns. It wasn't windy at all but we came down in zone a few times and there wasn't much they could do. They only had 8 guys. Squid C was the typical Squid C. They only had one legitimate shot at scoring, but their guy dropped it in the endzone. The game took 45 minutes. UNLV played alright. They had some athletes and I think they went 3 and 1 for the day.
Sunday:
We wanted to come out really strong in preparation for UCSD. Our offense was looking pretty smooth but we didn't do too much on defense. SD State threw away a lot of jacks. We had them at about 13-2 and a few very unforced errors allowed them to score a few more before we could end it. Against UCLA, for the first time in the tournament, we started out on defense. Rory started us off with a nice layout D on the third or fourth throw and then immediately scored. We had a few problems for the next few points and they called a timeout after we scored to make it 5-3. We ended up scoring the next 10 points in a row with a nearly flawless offense. We got a few D's, but most of their turnovers were drops in zone. We went into finals against the Squids after a 50 minutes break. They had been playing SLO on the adjacent field in a game that was called on a hard cap. Alex got us going by first D'ing a huck over their big man and then making a huge catch over the same guy on a huck I shorted. We had some jitters but our offense fell back into place after we took half 8-5. Goals, assists and D's came from across the board. We only saw their 4-man cup for one whole point and we were able to work it all the way up. Sidelines were fierce throughout the game. Minus a couple drops and a few bad throws, our offense looked pretty solid. We got some D's too.
